I use to use drawing as a beginning for a painting, but not as a rule. For me drawing in itself is, in a way, another kind of expression than painting, even if I use colours at a drawing. I feel more freedom when the lines come and talk by it selves. My imagination fills the open spaces between the lines with an emptiness that makes the lines live stronger by their own, and makes a drawing more naked.

I feel more responsible in front of a canvas, more playful in front of a paper. Maybe because a drawing doesn't take so long to finish. I can be more unceremonious and the expression flows more easily.

But when a line is set in a drawing; it's set! I can't hide it behind layers of colours as in a painting if I want to change something. In that way the drawing is more a challenge than painting. If a line is "wrong" I have to make it valid by other lines in the surroundings.

My drawings come from my subconsciousness (except drawings of people, nudes, animals and landscapes). I channalises them without control or correction. It works as a part of my everlasting self development; tells me what's behind my masks.

contentment gives safety
safety gives success
success gives inspiration
inspiration gives health
